The sword is based on an original , now in a British musuem , used by one of England’s finest knights, Sir William Marshall, who served the crown faithfully under Henry II , Richard the Lionheart and Jack Lackland. The singlehand Sir William Marshall Sword is available with either a forged high-carbon steel blade (below) or a forged - folded Swedish powder steel Damascus blade ( orderable upon request - $819.00 ). Both blades are identical in handling characteristics and both are tempered to a tough HRC 52. The blade section features a central ridged fuller and full-length distal taper - a tough test for the bladesmith but resulting in a superb combination of speed and strength. The Combat Ready Practical HandandaHalf Sword blade features 1/16" wide edges and a rounded tip for safety. The tang is also substantial , with radiused corners at the blade shoulder and no welds. The end of the tang is riveted over the pommel , which both eliminates any possibility of inadvertent disassembly and provides a traditional means of tightening a loose hilt. The hardwood grip is leather covered. The scabbard is fabricated in glass-filled resin, to provide great impact resistance , to eliminate swelling and to minimize blade corrosion problems. The scabbard now features belt rings that adjust to allow vertical or horizontal carry. The wood-grain finish is attractive, but most reenactors will decorate the scabbard to match their persona.

The United States 1860 Federal Heavy Cavalry Saber Sword by Cold Steel
At the outbreak of the American Civil War, there were two types of sabre swords issued to the Federal Cavalry: "light" and "heavy". The light version saber sword was popular, but the heavy model, dubbed the "Old Wrist Breaker" was the one worth owning, as it was a superior weapon. Its 36" blade offered big reach advantages over most sabers, and its substantial weight gave it the leverage to easily crush bones and sever limbs or even a head with a single blow. The brass guard had three bars to protect the hand and the grip was wire bound leather and capped with a sturdy pommel. In its double ringed, steel scabbard, it could be easily attached to a saddle or to a belt.
After examining and handling a number of original 1860 Heavy Cavalry Sabers, Cold Steel decided to make their own reproduction with a few improvements. The Cold Steel blade is made from 1055 Carbon Steel with a hard spring temper and will pass the British Proof Test.

There are two basic types of straight bladed swords used in China. One is fairly long and heavy known as the Wu Jian or "Martial Sword". The other is substantially lighter and called a Wen Jian or "Scholar's Sword" and was primarily carried for personal self defense. After studying books and video tapes on the history and use of both weapons , Cold Steel decided to make their own combat worthy Gim (Wu Jian) for serious collectors and practitioners of Chinese Martial Arts. The blade of the Cold Steel Wu Jian sword is made out of 1055 spring steel and measures 30" long by 11/2" wide. For cutting and slashing , both edges are quite sharp and they terminate in a strong , useful point for stabbing. The traditionally styled guard and pommel are cast out of thick sturdy brass and fit snugly on a stout Rosewood handle that is both highly decorative as well as functional.
